About Lipisetu
ಲಿಪಿಸೇತು (Lipisetu) joins two words: ಲಿಪಿ (lipi), “script”, and ಸೇತು (setu), “bridge”. It is a bridge between old Nudi/Baraha ASCII Kannada text and Unicode Kannada.
Who made it
Lipisetu is built by Rajesh Odayanchal, a Bengaluru-based web developer. Its conversion engine comes from sanka by Aravinda VK, released under the MIT licence and used here unchanged. Lipisetu adds a new mobile-friendly interface, an encoding-mismatch warning, and search and accessibility improvements (source code).
What it converts
Nudi/Baraha ASCII Kannada to Unicode Kannada, and Unicode Kannada back to Nudi/Baraha ASCII. Other legacy font encodings are not supported. See supported formats.
How accurate is it
The engine ships with an automated test suite of more than a thousand character and word conversions, including conjuncts, reph (ರ್) forms and numerals. You can run the tests in your browser. If you find a word that converts incorrectly, please report it with the input and the expected output on GitHub.
Privacy
All conversion happens in JavaScript inside your browser. Your text is not sent to a server or stored. The site uses no analytics, advertising or tracking. The only outside file it loads is the Font Awesome icon stylesheet from cdnjs. The web host may keep standard access logs (such as IP address and page requested), but those logs never contain the text you convert.
